You may wonder where my online name "Thalathis" comes from? Good question indeed... To tell the truth there's not really much behind this name. I was searching for a nickname when I first explored the internet (hell, that's long ago) and for some time I was just playing around with letters. Somewhen I had the name "Thalathis" in my mind and somehow I was happy with that. By now there is a variety of this name existing, friends call me Thala, Thaly or Thal. Anyway, call me like you want to.
You probably already noticed that this site is mainly about dragons which appear especially in my art. Art and dragons, both play a very important role in my life.
As long as I can think dragons fascinated me and I always had the feeling that they are something really special to me. I was (and still am) fanatic about everything that has to do with dragons. I collect books, statues, pictures. Everything. And my "relationship" to these creatures went even deeper and deeper during the last years. Well, I don't want to list every tiny detail here but if you're interested in the whole story just ask me and I might tell you. :) Just let me say that many things brought to my dragon-fanatism.
Today nearly everyone in the internet knows me as Thala, the red dragoness. And believe me, most of the people around me think I'm a freak when they hear some of my close friends calling me "draggie" or so. But to tell the truth I have no problem with that. I always was a bit "different" from others and I like being an "indiviualist" if I'm allowed to use that phrase. By the way you can find some pictures of "me" in the gallery.
Thala is not just my "second" name, identity or whatever you want to call it; but also a name and character I use in some RPGs (role playing games). Which leds to an other point of my hobbies. Alongside reading, drawing and writing I really like RPGs in any form. Text RPGs. MMORPGs, roleplaying games like "The Legend of Zelda" and so on. You see, I'm a quiet creative person. Writing, drawing and dreaming are my life!
Besides that RPG stuff I am also working on a totally own project together with a friend of mine. If that one will ever be finished and published a dream will come true. I always wanted to release a book or such. However, that fictional story is - roughly said - about the underground life in New York City and Tokyo. However, my second big hobby is drawing. I first grabbed the pencil to draw something for myself (besides the typical stuff everyone has to do during school or kindergarten) somewhen in 2005 and some months later I also began with writing and the online RPG stuff. That are approximately two years by now but somehow it really seems longer to me… o.O Since then I really enjoy drawing and painting although I still have many, many things to learn. I started with the classic pencil, coloring with colored pencils and after some time Photoshop and co catched my attention. That was the time when I first tried coloring in PS - with a mouse (!). The result was quiet horrible to tell the truth but I continued working with that new, fascinating media. After several pictures drawn with photoshop and mouse someone told me about graphic tablets (meaning you can draw with a pen on a tablet surface and the strokes will appear on your screen) and I went to our local media store and asked for them. As far as graphic tablets are not a daily thing the guy there needed some time to understand what I wanted but he finally even found one of these little babies. Well, the store had only one model but I took it anyway. I was too curious about it, so I went home again, installed that thing called "Trust Scroll Tablet" (A4 format) and imediatly tried it out. Hell, I was so happy when I opened PS and that tablet was actually working! But today I know it better; for a start that tablet was good but not more. I spent approx. 100 $ on that tablet which actually isn't that much. The quality of that tablet was.. hm, let's say: "okay". But for serious working with photoshop I needed something better. That's why I asked fellow artists and nearly everyone told me to get a "Wacom". So I gathered some informations and prices and in spring 2007 I finally got a "Wacom Intuos3" in A5 format. I really was surprised when I tried the tablet for the first time. The difference to the Trust tablet was simply huge. I'd never imagined that the Wacom would be THAT far better, but it was nothing compared to my old "Trust". Today I know that Wacom is actually the best quality you can get on that field and most professional digital artists are working with Wacom. Since then I mainly work digitally with photoshop and my tablet. Anyway, enough of boring artists drivel.
And now? Since summer 2006 I get major arts classes at school and I finally get to know some new traditional media like oil, acrylics or such, which is again totally different. Still traditional art is harder than digital art but I think one should be able to handle these "real" media if he or she wants to get better in the digital field. I also started to offer commissions and I continue working on my arts skills. As I said, there is still much to learn. ;)
